Breaking The Speed Limit

(Spiritually speaking, I would love to be in this dude’s shoes right now. Physically, not so much…)

Happy Tuesday! I have something pretty cool to share with you all this morning about a dream I had last week… Picture this:

We’re passengers in a white Escalade, steadily making our way up a mountain. Our trip begins near the bottom, and the road we’re following is in a continuous spiral around the mountain that eventually leads to the peak. Once we’re about halfway, the road becomes less of a smooth, steady incline and is now marked with hills. We’re relatively unaffected by this; we just keep our eyes ahead and focus on getting beyond them. It’s a little foggy out, but the cloud cover is never so thick that we can’t see the road immediately ahead. As weather conditions continue to change, it begins to rain, which quickly turns into snow.

Suddenly we come up on what looks to be a dead end—This section of the mountain road becomes an entirely iced bridge, and about 25 feet of it is completely gone. To get to the other side and continue the journey up our mountain, we’re going to have to jump it. The speed limit reads 55 miles per hour, but I know that we’re going to have to drive at least twice that in order to make it to the other side. However, the driver chooses to try the jump by following the designated limit set at 55.

Ironically, as we get to the beginning of the glacial section, somehow the Escalade misses the path completely and begins descending the side of the icy cliff (it looked like we were driving down stairs). We all are plunged into a large arctic pool of water. I escape out of the back window to safety, but a giant fish swallows the Escalade with the others. I wait at the edge of the water for the fish to spew them out… (And once they are back on land, I DO mean they had some pep-in-their-step!!!)

Now is a time of setting our faces like flint towards the kingdom of heaven, with wholehearted devotion to ascend the mountain of the Lord.

We were driving in a white Escalade— the word escalade literally means, “a scaling or mounting by means of  ladders, especially in an assault upon a fortified place.” Jesus said in Matthew 11:12, “And from the days of John the Baptist until the present time, the kingdom of heaven has endured violent assault, and violent men seize it by force [as a precious prize—a share in the heavenly kingdom is sought with most ardent zeal and intense exertion].”

There is an intense acceleration in the work of the Kingdom happening that we need to get on board with in order to go higher—it’s time to lock our eyes on the path before us, being careful not to get distracted… Endurance, determination, and stamina are qualities necessary to master in preparation for what lies ahead.

I believe that God is sifting individuals, for there are many who do things in the name of God through the power of religion, rather than in the name of God through the power of His Spirit. As we get closer to our destination, we may be faced with some “sections of missing road” that require a giant leap of faith. These are tests meant for us to PASS—to pass them we must have complete trust in God. In trusting Him, we need to know that He will empower us superabundantly to get to the other side.

However, releasing the power of the Holy Spirit first requires breaking off earthly limitations that have bound Him. This will probably attract criticism from some, but if we are unwilling to break tradition to reach the other side, then we will forfeit His superabundant power and risk the spiritual decline of our faith… We certainly wont make the jump. We may not flee from God’s command in the same way that Jonah did, but it’s important to know that half-hearted obedience is not obedience. And disobedience will send us cliff-diving into the belly of consequence every time.

The awesome thing is knowing that GOD WANTS US TO REACH THE TOP OF HIS MOUNTAIN! He longs for us to pass tests He places before us. My friend, if you feel like you can no longer see the road ahead of you, don’t get discouraged. Throw yourself wholeheartedly into the secret place with Him, and ask Him to supernaturally get you to the other side, so that His Name may be glorified through you. Ask Him to keep your feet from slipping, and ask Him to remove any limit signs in your life that are suffocating your faith and hindering you from advancing on your journey!

Who can climb Mount God?
    Who can scale the holy north-face?
Only the clean-handed,
    only the pure-hearted;
Men who won’t cheat,
    women who won’t seduce.

God is at their side;
    with God’s help they make it.
This, Jacob, is what happens
    to God-seekers, God-questers.

Wake up, you sleepyhead city!
Wake up, you sleepyhead people!
    King-Glory is ready to enter.

Who is this King-Glory?
    God, armed
    and battle-ready.

Wake up, you sleepyhead city!
Wake up, you sleepyhead people!
    King-Glory is ready to enter.

Who is this King-Glory?
    he is King-Glory.

Psalm 24:3-10
